After Gunmen, Orden Ogan head for the stars on Final Days, a dark science-fiction concept record produced by frontman Sebastian “Seeb” Levermann. The sound is still the Orden Ogan sound: thick choirs, chunky modern riffs and a melancholy streak running under the big choruses.
“In The Dawn Of The AI” is the centrepiece and the best thing here, a mid-tempo anthem that sticks for days. “Inferno” and “Let The Fire Rain” keep the pace up, while Firewind’s Gus G. guests on “Interstellar”. Brothers Of Metal singer Ylva Eriksson sings on “Alone In The Dark”, a nice change of colour.
The back half is a little less memorable and the formula is familiar by now. Still, few German power metal bands write choruses this sure of themselves.
