Myrath was founded in 2001 by guitarist Malek Ben Arbia, then 13 years old, under the name X-Tazy. The early band played covers, including Symphony X songs, before moving towards its own progressive and oriental metal. In 2005 the band circulated the Double Face recording on USB flash drives, and in 2006 it took the name Myrath. It became the first Tunisian band to sign with a European label.
The debut album Hope, recorded with keyboardist and singer Elyes Bouchoucha and bassist Anis Jouini, was released by the French label Brennus Music on 9 September 2007. Vocalist Zaher Zorgati joined after the debut. Desert Call (January 2010) and Tales of the Sands (September 2011) followed on XIII Bis Records, and drummer Morgan Berthet joined in 2011. The band made its first US appearance at ProgPower USA in 2013.
Legacy was released on 19 February 2016 through Verycords in Europe, and the band toured with Symphony X in 2016. After signing with earMUSIC, Myrath released Shehili on 3 May 2019, followed by the live release Live in Carthage. The band has played festivals including Hellfest and Wacken. Elyes Bouchoucha’s departure was announced in 2022; Kevin Codfert, the band’s longtime producer, has since played keyboards with the band.
Karma followed on 8 March 2024. The seventh studio album, Wilderness of Mirrors, was released by earMUSIC on 27 March 2026 and features a duet with Elize Ryd of Amaranthe on “Until the End”.
