Smoke, candles, a projector flickering grainy Euro-horror on the wall. Black Masses was recorded at Toe Rag Studios in London with engineer Liam Watson, and it sounds like a tape dug up from a cellar in 1971. Jus Oborn and Liz Buckingham pile on the fuzz until the riffs feel like weather.
“Black Mass” drones like a ritual chant. “Venus in Furs” slinks in like a bad idea at two in the morning. “Satyr IX” crawls for ten minutes through feedback, and “Crypt of Drugula” closes the night with the candles almost out.
