Thirty-six minutes. That’s all Proscriptor McGovern and company need on Abzu, and they waste none of it. “Earth Ripper” bursts out of the gate with a shriek that could strip paint, and the Texans barely touch the brakes after that. Now a trio, with Ezezu on bass and vocals and Vis Crom on guitar, Absu also handed the lead guitar work to Blasphemer. Sparks guaranteed.
Then comes “A Song for Ea”, fourteen-plus minutes split into six parts. Some called it a maze. I call it the reason to keep the record spinning after the speed-freak stuff. Not every turn lands, but if you like your Sumerian myth served at blast-beat tempo, grab this one and turn it up.
