Paul Speckmann was already shouting about injustice in Chicago in 1983. Four decades and, by the label’s count, sixteen studio albums later, Among the Seeds of Death keeps the old promise: death metal riffs played with hardcore punk impatience, a filthy bass tone up front, and lyrics that still distrust anyone in charge. His Czech-based trio, with Alex Nejezchleba on guitar and Peter Bajči on drums, sounds tight and unhurried at the same time.
It will not replace the early-nineties records, and it is not trying to. Next to Saints Dispelled it is the punchier record. Start with the title track, then “Dust’s Arrival”.
