The first sound on Liberation Front is a wash of electronic noise, and it is one of the few moments on the record where anything gets room to breathe.
The Sydney band’s first album for BLKIIBLK was conceived as a sequel to Director’s Cuts, and it leans harder into the death metal end of deathcore. The mix is built for impact. Kick, bass and guitars are pressed into a single slab, so the breakdowns land like a hydraulic press, but the melodic details and atmospherics get flattened along the way. Dane Evans earns his keep with genuine range rather than gimmick squeals, and the lyrics stay fixed on animal cruelty and environmental ruin, with “NAIL MARY” aimed squarely at those who use religion to justify dominion over animals.
The songwriting is smarter than the sheer weight suggests. “LIFE AMONG THE SEPTICS” shifts tempo often enough to keep its breakdowns from sounding stock, and “YOU KNOW THE DRILL” builds patiently toward a brutal final drop. The problem is sequencing. Almost all the contrast is saved for the last stretch, with “TERRORFIRE” laying a slaughterhouse sample over slow, brooding post-metal, so the first half blurs.
Strong material, slightly suffocated. A little more headroom and this would hurt even more.
