Who puts a Goo Goo Dolls cover in the middle of a Tolkien-flavoured power metal saga? Frozen Crown do, that’s who.
The Italians pick up the tale of the Kings and the Tyrant from their 2018 debut The Fallen King, and this time Jade Etro takes up the sinister frozen crown herself. The tempos drop more often than on War Hearts, and the hooks are written for crowds to shout back. “Winter Hearts” is the exception, all double kick and gallop, and the title track closes things with Federico Mondelli’s growls and the biggest chorus on the record. Then there’s “Iris”. Half of you will sing every word. The other half will hit skip. Grab a sword and pick a side.
