Signs of the Swarm were formed in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 2014. The first line-up was singer CJ McCreery, guitarists Rodney Fabiann and Jacob Toy, bassist Collin Barker and drummer Bobby Crow. Crow is the only founding member left, and over the years he has played drums, bass and even guitar in the band.
The mostly self-recorded debut Senseless Order (2016) leaned on brutal death metal and slam. After signing with Unique Leader the band added black metal and hardcore to the mix on The Disfigurement of Existence (2017). In 2018 McCreery left to join Lorna Shore, and David Simonich took over the vocals, starting with Vital Deprivation (2019) and Absolvere (2021).
In 2022 they moved to Century Media. Their fifth album, Amongst the Low & Empty, was produced by Josh Schroeder and released on 28 July 2023. It was the first record with guitarist Carl Schulz, who replaced Jeff Russo that spring.
The band marked ten years with the Decade of the Swarm tours in North America and Europe in 2024. The sixth album, To Rid Myself of Truth, followed on 22 August 2025 with guest spots from Will Ramos of Lorna Shore and Phil Bozeman of Whitechapel, and in March 2026 they toured Australia.
Current line-up: David Simonich (vocals), Carl Schulz (guitar), Michael Cassese (bass), Bobby Crow (drums).
