The hero of the first album is locked away, and the story is handed to his brother. That is the frame of Angus McSix and the All-Seeing Astral Eye: Adam McSix, sung by Sam Nyman of Manimal, steps into the cosmic armour after Thomas Winkler’s departure. It makes the record feel like a second chapter told by a stranger, someone more tired of the world than its first hero ever was.
The sound is a planetarium of keyboards and choirs, built for a dome rather than a club. Rhapsody of Fire, Van Canto, Turmion Kätilöt and Freedom Call drop in as passing constellations. Some of it glows. “Techno Men” mostly blinks.
