Gloryhammer – Return to the Kingdom of Fife album cover

Fourth album, first with new Angus McFife Sozos Michael, ex-Planeswalker, and he slots in perfectly. His voice is cleaner and climbs higher than Thomas Winkler’s ever did, and the songs are written to show it off.

Musically it is pure Gloryhammer: laser keyboards, double-bass gallops and choruses about goblins and Scottish towns. “Holy Flaming Hammer of Unholy Cosmic Frost” and “Keeper of the Celestial Flame of Abernethy” are as catchy as anything the band has done, and “Sword Lord of the Goblin Horde” adds a fun Rhapsody-style swagger. The joke is the same as ever, though, and the album rarely surprises. Great fun, just not a new chapter.

Best tracks:

Holy Flaming Hammer of Unholy Cosmic Frost
Keeper of the Celestial Flame of Abernethy
Sword Lord of the Goblin Horde
