Bury Tomorrow have never been short of big choruses, and on Cannibal they point them squarely at mental health. Their sixth album, produced by Dan Weller, is about being eaten alive from the inside, and it sounds like it. The riffs are lean and percussive, the breakdowns land exactly where you want them, and the whole thing is over in just over forty minutes.
Opener “Choke” sets the pace with Dani Winter-Bates roaring over a stop-start groove before Jason Cameron’s clean vocals pull the chorus skyward. That push and pull is still the band’s best weapon. The title track and “The Grey (VIXI)” are relentless, and “Better Below” has one of the catchiest hooks they have written. “Quake” is pure pit fuel.
It is not a reinvention, and the formula does wear a little thin in the back half. But the honesty in these songs gives the old blueprint real weight.
