Rochester’s Undeath came back for album number two with ten songs of rotten, groovy old-school death metal and absolutely zero interest in reinventing anything. Good. “Fiend for Corpses” kicks the door in, and from there it is mid-paced chug, sudden blasts and riffs that stick like grave dirt.
The trick is the hooks. “Rise from the Grave” and “Head Splattered in Seven Ways” are catchy in a way death metal rarely bothers to be, and the vocals stay gruff and readable rather than sinking into mush. Closer “Trampled Headstones” is the pick for anyone who likes their Cannibal Corpse worship with a bit more swing. Short, nasty, replayable.
