Zeit is Rammstein’s eighth studio album, recorded at La Fabrique in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence and produced with Olsen Involtini. It is the band’s most reflective record. The title track sets the mood early with a slow piano build, Till Lindemann half-singing over it, and the guitars only arriving when the song needs them.
That doesn’t mean the old Rammstein has gone anywhere. “Zick Zack” is a cheeky stomp about plastic surgery, and “Dicke Titten” is exactly as subtle as the title suggests. “Angst” has the tightest riff on the record, while the closing “Adieu” ends things on a heavy, almost funereal note. Bryan Adams shot the cover photo, which is a strange fact that somehow fits.
The balance between the brooding material and the jokes is mostly right, even if a couple of mid-album songs drift. A grown-up Rammstein record that still knows how to march.
