If you can’t handle dragons, wizards and lyrics about arcane might, turn back now. Everyone else, step into the tavern. Heroes of Mighty Magic is Twilight Force pushing their fantasy power metal as far as it can go, with orchestration piled on top of orchestration and guest spots from Fabio Lione and Joakim Brodén adding to the pageantry.
“Battle of Arcane Might” is a ridiculous, irresistible opener, all galloping drums and a chorus built for a thousand raised goblets, and “Flight of the Sapphire Dragon” is even catchier. “To the Stars” keeps the energy high, while the title track goes full cinematic epic. The long-form material is where the album sags slightly, with “There and Back Again” taking its time to get where it’s going. For pure, unironic power metal fun, though, almost nothing in 2016 comes close.
