Twilight Force were formed in 2011 in the Falun and Borlänge area of Sweden. On stage and on record the members use the names of characters from the band’s fantasy world.

Their debut studio album, Tales of Ancient Prophecies, was released by Black Lodge Records in 2014.

The band then signed with Nuclear Blast, which released their second album, Heroes of Mighty Magic, on 26 August 2016. Joakim Brodén of Sabaton sang on the title track and Fabio Lione appeared as a guest vocalist. The album reached No. 54 in Germany and No. 20 on the UK Rock & Metal Albums chart.

Dawn of the Dragonstar followed on 16 August 2019 as the first album with new vocalist Allyon (Alessandro Conti). The fourth album, At the Heart of Wintervale, was released by Nuclear Blast on 20 January 2023 and was the last to feature guitarists Lynd and Aerendir and bassist Born, who announced their departures in June 2024. Their replacements were presented later that year, among them guitarist Bradley Hall as Bramley Underhall.

On 17 February 2026 Twilight Force announced a worldwide deal with Napalm Records and released the single “Magic of a New Dawn”, their first new music since At the Heart of Wintervale. In May 2026 they toured Canada with Alestorm.
