Left To Suffer – Unwelcome Guest album cover

Lock the door.

Atlanta’s nu-deathcore wrecking crew are back with album number four, their first for Hopeless Records, and they have not calmed down one bit. Breakdowns the size of a house, hip-hop beats, nu-metal bounce and Taylor Barber bellowing like he’s been personally insulted. “Gun In The Duffel Bag” is about anger boiling over, and it sounds exactly like that. “STFU” takes every online hater and turns them into fuel for the pit. Very funny, very loud.

Then the record gets nasty in a different way. The title track draws on guitarist Peter Higgs’ time in the military, and “Honor Amongst Thieves” and “Unrequited Dread” are the heaviest, ugliest things here. Alan Grnja of Distant drops by on “WRONG NUMBER” and only makes it meaner.

Not everyone is invited to this party. Some critics loved it, others heard too many effects and too much attitude, and the vocal gimmicks on “404” will test your patience. But if your idea of a good night out ends in a circle pit, start with “Unrequited Dread” and work backwards.
