Gloryhammer – Space 1993: Wrath of Kor-Virliath album cover

Who do you call to mix a record about Angus McFife V defending Aberdeen from demons in the distant future of 1993? Jacob Hansen, and it was the right call. The band produced Space 1993: Wrath of Kor-Virliath themselves, but Hansen’s mix puts real weight in the guitars and drums, so the orchestra decorates the songs instead of smothering them. “Silver Talon” leans into thrash, “Demonic Devotion” opens on synth-pop keys, and the hooks land hard.

The weak spot is predictability. “Demonic Devotion” sits uncomfortably close to “Universe on Fire”, and almost nothing here takes a risk. The nearly thirteen-minute closer with the absurd title is the exception, four chapters that actually earn their length. Aberdeen survives. So does the formula.
