Dool’s second album is a slow-burning, spiritual piece of dark rock that grows with every spin. Ryanne van Dorst’s voice sits right at the centre of Summerland, sometimes a whisper, sometimes a full-throated howl, and the band build everything around it with real patience.
“Sulphur & Starlight” opens the album on a hypnotic, rolling groove, and “Wolf Moon” follows with a more urgent drive. “God Particle” is the emotional peak for me, while the title track leans into the psychedelic side without losing its grip. Per Wiberg adds Hammond organ, and the warm production, recorded by Martin Ehrencrona and mixed by Magnus Lindberg, gives the guitars both weight and space.
Not every song needs its full length, and the middle stretch sags slightly. But closer “Dust & Shadow” pulls it all together, and Dool sound like a band who know exactly who they are.
