Dool were formed in Rotterdam in 2015 around singer and guitarist Raven van Dorst, who had previously performed solo as Elle Bandita. The name is Dutch for wandering or roaming, and from the start the band mixed dark rock, doom and post-rock with big, melodic hooks.

The debut Here Now, There Then came out on Prophecy Productions in 2017 and quickly made Dool one of the most talked-about new names in European dark rock. Summerland followed in April 2020, and the band later released the live album Visions of Summerland, recorded at the Arminius Church in Rotterdam.

The line-up has changed over the years, with bassist JB van der Wal joining in 2017 and new guitarists and a new drummer arriving later, but van Dorst has remained the band’s driving force.

The Shape of Fluidity, the band’s third studio album, was released by Prophecy Productions on 19 April 2024. Van Dorst, who was born intersex, built the record around identity and transformation, and it is widely seen as Dool’s most personal and powerful work so far.

Current line-up: Raven van Dorst (vocals, guitar), Nick Polak (guitar), Omar Iskandr (guitar), JB van der Wal (bass), Vincent Kreyder (drums).
