Destruction – Birth of Malice album cover

Birth of Malice is Destruction’s sixteenth studio album, made by the lineup of Schmier, guitarists Martin Furia and Damir Eskić and drummer Randy Black. It was recorded at Little Creek Studio in Switzerland with V.O. Pulver, and Furia mixed and mastered it himself.

After a one-minute intro, “Destruction” kicks the door in, and the first half barely lets up. “Cyber Warfare” and “Scumbag Human Race” are fast, mean and simple, exactly what you want from this band. “A.N.G.S.T.” takes a heavier, more mid-paced route and works just as well, and Schmier’s snarl hasn’t lost an inch of venom.

The second half sags a bit. “Dealer Of Death” and “Greed” are solid, but they don’t add much new. The cover of Accept’s “Fast As A Shark” at the end is good fun, if not essential. Still, the production is sharp and the riffing is tight. Old-school thrash, played by people who mean it.
