Remember when Whitechapel went all melodic on us? Forget it. Hymns in Dissonance is the band’s ninth album and their heaviest in ages: a concept record about a cult leader dragging his followers through the seven deadly sins, and it is filthy. Self-produced with Zach Householder, it opens with “Prisoner 666” and never lets up, and Phil Bozeman sounds genuinely possessed. Deathcore at its most savage, and its most fun.
