Sylosis’ sixth album is their tightest. Ten songs, 43 minutes, all written by Josh Middleton, produced by Middleton and Scott Atkins. The long progressive detours of the early records are gone; what’s left is thrash riffing with a metalcore punch and choruses built for big rooms.
“Deadwood” opens at full speed, “Pariahs” is pure head-down aggression, and “Poison for the Lost” is the anthem, the last song written for the album and easily the catchiest thing they have done. Middleton’s clean singing is more confident than before, though a couple of the mid-album tracks run on similar patterns and blur together.
“A Godless Throne” closes it with real weight. Not their most ambitious album, but the most focused one, and it reached number two on the UK Rock & Metal chart for good reason.
