Trivium were formed in Orlando, Florida, in 1999, and Matt Heafy was recruited after the band’s original singer, Brad Lewter, saw him play guitar at a school talent show. Heafy soon became the band’s singer and guitarist. The German label Lifeforce released their debut album Ember to Inferno in 2003.

Guitarist Corey Beaulieu and bassist Paolo Gregoletto joined shortly after, forming the core that remains today. After signing to Roadrunner Records, the band released Ascendancy in March 2005, followed by The Crusade (2006), which leaned towards clean vocals, and the heavier Shogun (2008).

In Waves (2011), Vengeance Falls (2013) and Silence in the Snow (2015) followed, and The Sin and the Sentence (2017), the first album with drummer Alex Bent, became one of their most acclaimed records. What the Dead Men Say arrived in April 2020 and the band’s tenth studio album, In the Court of the Dragon, in October 2021.

The EP Struck Dead was released on 31 October 2025, after Bent had left the band earlier that month. Former Whitechapel drummer Alex Rüdinger was announced as his permanent replacement in October 2025. In September 2026 Trivium released “Dead Inside of Me”, the first single from their forthcoming eleventh studio album.

Current line-up: Matt Heafy (vocals, guitar), Corey Beaulieu (guitar), Paolo Gregoletto (bass), Alex Rüdinger (drums)
