Sleep Token – Take Me Back to Eden album cover

Love them or hate them, this is the album that turned Sleep Token from a cult act into one of the biggest names in heavy music. Six singles were dropped in the early months of 2023, and by the time Take Me Back to Eden landed in May the hype was enormous.

The record jumps between djent riffs, piano ballads, R&B, trap beats and pop hooks, often inside the same song. “The Summoning” is the obvious highlight, with II’s drumming and that late funk-flavoured groove. “Vore” is the heaviest track, almost blackened at its peak. “Granite” and “Aqua Regia” lean towards pop, and Vessel’s voice carries it all. The closing title track and “Euclid” bring the story to an emotional end.

At over an hour it sags in places, and purists will hate the genre-hopping. But the ambition is real, and the best moments are huge.
