Meir means “more”, and that is the brief Kvelertak seem to have given themselves for album number two: more riffs, more hooks, more of everything. Kurt Ballou of Converge produced it at GodCity Studios in Salem, Massachusetts, and John Dyer Baizley painted the cover.
“Åpenbaring” opens with a slow build before the three guitars kick in, and “Bruane brenn” was the obvious single, a fist-pumping anthem with Erlend Hjelvik barking in Norwegian over the top. “Månelyst” is pure rock’n’roll swagger.
The longer songs are where it gets interesting. “Nekrokosmos” and the nearly nine-minute “Tordenbrak” show a band capable of more than punk-metal sprints. A couple of the shorter tracks feel like leftovers, but the energy rarely drops. It topped the Norwegian album chart, and it is easy to hear why.
