Six Norwegians, three guitars, zero brakes. Go. Kvelertak flew to Kurt Ballou’s GodCity studio in Massachusetts, and came back with a debut that sounds like a party that got out of hand around midnight. Black metal shrieks, punk gang vocals, rock ’n’ roll riffs you could hum in the shower. Mostly sung in Norwegian, and you will not care either way.
“Mjød” is pure beer-hall chaos. “Blodtørst” has a hook that should be illegal. Taake’s Hoest growls on the opener “Ulvetid”, and John Dyer Baizley of Baroness painted that cover. Turn it up and mind the furniture.
