The Tempe, Arizona four-piece call what they do “deathgaze”, and their second full-length makes the tag make sense. Mark Garrett’s vocals move between a deep growl and soaring clean lines, and the guitars swing from tremolo storms to slow, glowing chords.
“Silvered Shadows” and “Glass Phantoms” show both sides best. Christoph Clöser of Bohren & der Club of Gore adds saxophone, and Miah Lajeunesse’s production keeps all of it clear. Eleven tracks is a lot of melancholy in one sitting, but “Compost Grave-Song” earns its place.
