Black metal purists, look away now. MØL’s third album has more shoegaze and alt-rock hooks than blast beats, and the Aarhus five-piece sound entirely at ease with it. Kim Song Sternkopf leans on clean vocals more than ever, and his screams now share the melodies instead of fighting them.
Eleven tracks, about forty-two minutes, no slack. “Young” and “Hud” are huge, “A Former Blueprint” is the best short song they’ve written, and the guitar solos in the middle stretch are a real surprise. A couple of endings just stop rather than finish – “DREAM” is the worst offender. Still: their most replayable record by some distance.
