Former Nifelheim frontman Hellbutcher (Per Gustavsson) names his new band after himself, and the debut sounds exactly like you would expect: leather, spikes, Venom and Bathory worship, played tight and fast by a Swedish crew that knows the old scrolls by heart. Eight songs, no intros, no ballads, no messing about.
“The Sword of Wrath” is the perfect opener, all galloping riffs and that unmistakable sneer, while “Violent Destruction” and “Hordes of the Horned God” show the band can write proper hooks rather than just blur. Nothing here will surprise anyone who owns Servants of Darkness, but the self-produced sound is punchy and the guitar leads are better than they need to be. Pure fun for denim-vest people.
