On their second album the Toronto crew came back with something bigger, stranger and far more confident. Manor of Infinite Forms still drinks from the same murky Finnish well as before, but the songs now twist and fold in on themselves in a way that rewards repeat listens. The title track opens with a lurching, putrid riff that suddenly flips into a sprint, and from there the record barely pauses for breath.
“Blood Mirror” is a maze of riffs and tempo shifts, Max Klebanoff’s drumming pushing it forward like he’s chasing it downhill, and “Abysswalker” has a lead line so catchy it borders on rude. Arthur Rizk’s mix is cleaner than the debut’s swampy murk, and while a little of that filth is missed, it lets you hear just how sharp this band had become. “Two Worlds Become One” closes the album on its longest and most ambitious note. Old-school death metal without the nostalgia trip.
