New rhythm section, new producer, same hunger. Before recording, Death Angel lost longtime drummer Andy Galeon and brought in Will Carroll behind the kit, with Damien Sisson taking over on bass. Mark Osegueda and guitarist Rob Cavestany remained at the core.
The band went to Florida and tracked with Jason Suecof at Audiohammer Studios in Sanford, a choice that gives the record a tighter, more modern punch than the Bay Area veterans had before. Twelve songs, and nobody is coasting. The highlights are easy to name: “Relentless Revolution” opens at full speed, “River of Rapture” has the hookiest chorus, and the long “Claws in So Deep” ends with an acoustic outro played by Rodrigo y Gabriela, a guest spot few saw coming.
It runs a little long in the middle. Still, for a band rebuilt on the fly, this is sharp and convincing thrash with real teeth, and Osegueda sounds furious.
