Spectral Wound formed in Montreal in 2014 and quickly became one of the leading names in Quebec’s black metal scene. Their sound is black metal at its most direct: raw, fast and melodic, with no symphonic dressing or studio trickery.

The band have also been outspoken about their opposition to fascism and racism within the genre, and they tend to present themselves as a collective rather than as individual personalities.

The debut album Terra Nullius appeared in 2015, followed by Infernal Decadence in 2018. Signing with Profound Lore Records, they released A Diabolic Thirst in April 2021, an album that brought them a much wider audience far beyond the underground.

Their fourth album, Songs of Blood and Mire, followed on 23 August 2024 via Profound Lore. Recorded and mixed by guitarist Patrick McDowall and mastered by James Plotkin, it is their catchiest and most vicious record yet, with “Aristocratic Suicidal Black Metal” as its signature song.

Current line-up: Jonah Campbell (vocals), Patrick McDowall (guitar), Sean Zumbusch (guitar), Sam (bass), Illusory (drums)
