Winterfylleth

Winterfylleth were formed in Manchester in 2006 by singer and guitarist Chris Naughton and drummer Simon Lucas, taking their name from the Old English word for October. A demo, Rising of the Winter Full Moon, followed in 2007, and the debut album The Ghost of Heritage came out through Profound Lore Records in 2008. Guitarist Richard Brass left after that first record, and bassist Nick Wallwork joined in 2009.

Their breakthrough came with The Mercian Sphere (2010) on Candlelight Records, which Terrorizer named album of the month and placed among its top twenty records of the year. The Threnody of Triumph (2012) won the same Terrorizer honour and also featured in Kerrang!’s year-end list. The Divination of Antiquity followed on 6 October 2014, and The Dark Hereafter in 2016.

Keyboardist Mark Deeks joined the line-up during this period. On 6 April 2018 the band released The Hallowing of Heirdom, an entirely acoustic album that leaned on English folk music and guest strings and woodwind. The Reckoning Dawn arrived in 2020, and late that year Russell Dobson replaced Dan Capp on lead guitar.

The Imperious Horizon came out on 13 September 2024 through Candlelight/Spinefarm. In April 2025 Nick Wallwork stepped down after sixteen years, and Mark Doyle, his bandmate in Arð, took over bass and backing vocals. The band’s ninth studio album, The Unyielding Season, was released on 27 March 2026 by Napalm Records, in the year Winterfylleth marked twenty years together.
