Seven Spires came together at Berklee College of Music in Boston in 2013, with singer and orchestrator Adrienne Cowan and guitarist Jack Kosto at its core. The line-up went through several early changes; the band that recorded the first full-length album was Cowan, Kosto, bassist Peter de Reyna and Chris Dovas, who joined on drums in 2015. Solveig (2017) was paid for through a crowdfunding campaign. It took them on the road in the US and Canada and to festivals such as MetalDays, 70000 Tons of Metal and ProgPower USA.
In January 2019 the band signed a multi-album deal with Frontiers Music. Around the same time Sascha Paeth chose Cowan as singer of his new band Masters of Ceremony, and Tobias Sammet picked her for Avantasia’s touring line-up. Emerald Seas, released on 14 February 2020, was mixed by Paeth. A prequel to Solveig, it follows a quest for eternal life at sea, and it joins melodic metal with passages drawn from melodic death and black metal.
Gods of Debauchery followed on 10 September 2021 and pulled in symphonic, progressive and extreme metal alongside ballads. Roy Khan of Conception guests on “This God Is Dead”. The band’s set at ProgPower USA XXI in Atlanta in June 2022 was released by Frontiers as Live at ProgPower USA XXI on 17 March 2023, again with Khan on that song.
Dovas left in 2023, when he became Testament’s drummer, but he still plays on A Fortress Called Home (21 June 2024), which Kosto produced. Drummer Dylan Gowan won the band’s worldwide audition in autumn 2023, toured with them through 2024 and became a full member that autumn. In October 2025 Seven Spires supported Ad Infinitum on their first headline tour of Europe, and the two bands toured North America together in February 2026, with Ad Infinitum headlining.
Current line-up: Adrienne Cowan (vocals, keyboards, orchestration), Jack Kosto (guitars), Peter de Reyna (bass), Dylan Gowan (drums)
