Lacuna Coil

Lacuna Coil began in Milan in 1994, when singer Andrea Ferro and bassist and composer Marco Coti Zelati formed Sleep of Right. The band then became Ethereal, and on finding that the name was already used by a Greek band changed it to Lacuna Coil, meaning “empty spiral”. Cristina Scabbia, first asked to sing backing vocals, became a full member. Signed to Century Media at the end of 1997, the band released a self-titled EP in 1998.

The debut album In a Reverie followed in 1999 and Unleashed Memories in 2001. Comalies (2002) was the breakthrough, as the single “Heaven’s a Lie” brought radio attention in North America, and by 2004 it was the best-selling CD in Century Media’s history. Karmacode (2006) debuted at number 28 on the Billboard 200.

Shallow Life (2009), Dark Adrenaline (2012) and Broken Crown Halo (2014) followed. In 2014 guitarist Cristiano “Pizza” Migliore and drummer Cristiano “Criz” Mozzati retired after 16 years with the band, and guitarist Marco Biazzi left in January 2016. Diego Cavallotti was introduced as the new live guitarist in April 2016, and Delirium (2016) and Black Anima (2019) were released. Comalies XX appeared on 14 October 2022.

Cavallotti left in June 2024 and was replaced by Daniele Salomone of Inverno, announced in October 2024. The tenth studio album, Sleepless Empire, was released by Century Media Records on 14 February 2025.
