Jinjer was formed in Donetsk in 2008 by singer Maksym Fatullaiev, guitarist Dmitriy Oksen, bassist Oleksiy Svynar and drummer Vyacheslav Okhrimenko. In 2009 Tatiana Shmayluk replaced Fatullaiev and Roman Ibramkhalilov joined on second guitar. Eugene Abdukhanov took over on bass in 2011, and the EP Inhale, Do Not Breathe was self-released in 2012 and reissued in extended form in 2013.
The debut album Cloud Factory came out in 2014 and was later re-released by Napalm Records, the band’s current label. King of Everything was released on 29 July 2016. Its song “Pisces” was ranked number 74 in Metal Hammer’s 2021 list of the 100 greatest metal songs of the 21st century. Shortly after the album’s release, following several changes behind the kit, Vladislav Ulasevich became the drummer, and the line-up has remained stable since.
The EP Micro appeared in January 2019, followed by Macro on 25 October 2019. Wallflowers was recorded at Kaska Record Studios in Kyiv in March 2021 and released on 27 August 2021. After Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022 the band paused its career to focus on relief work, and in June 2022 it received permission from the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture to tour abroad as ambassadors of the country.
The fifth album, Duél, was released by Napalm Records on 7 February 2025.
