Necrophobic were formed in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1989 by drummer Joakim Sterner and guitarist David Parland, taking their name from a Slayer song on Reign in Blood. Their debut The Nocturnal Silence (1993) set out the blend of death and black metal that still defines them. Co-founder Parland, who played on the early records, died in 2013.
Darkside (1997), The Third Antichrist (1999), Bloodhymns (2002), Hrimthursum (2006), Death to All (2009) and Womb of Lilithu (2013) followed. Anders Strokirk, the singer on the debut album, returned in 2014, and guitarists Sebastian Ramstedt and Johan Bergebäck rejoined in 2016, a reunion that powered the strong comeback albums Mark of the Necrogram (2018) and Dawn of the Damned (2020).
In the Twilight Grey, their tenth studio album, was released on 15 March 2024 via Century Media. It is the first full-length with bassist Tobias Cristiansson, who joined in 2022, and Sterner remains the band’s only constant member since 1989.
Current line-up: Anders Strokirk (vocals), Sebastian Ramstedt (guitar), Johan Bergebäck (guitar), Tobias Cristiansson (bass), Joakim Sterner (drums)
