Kanonenfieber began in 2020 in Bamberg, Bavaria, as the project of a musician who calls himself Noise. The idea came after he read the diary his great-grandfather had kept on the front lines of the First World War, and the music became a blackened death metal account of that war, built on letters and original documents from the period.

Noise writes and records everything in the studio himself. On stage he is joined by live musicians, and the whole band performs anonymously in German First World War uniforms and full-face masks, a deliberate reference to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

The debut Menschenmühle appeared in 2021 and won the project a fast-growing following. The second album, Die Urkatastrophe, followed in 2024 via Century Media, taking its title from the description of the First World War as the “seminal catastrophe” of the 20th century.

The third album, Soldatenschicksale, was released by Century Media on 6 February 2026. Noise also leads the anonymous projects Non Est Deus and Leiþa.

Current line-up: Noise (vocals, all studio instruments); live: Gunnar (bass, backing vocals), Ernst (lead guitar), Sickfried (rhythm guitar), Hans (drums)
