Cave In were formed in 1995 in Methuen, Massachusetts, by Stephen Brodsky and Jay Frechette, and guitarist Adam McGrath and drummer John-Robert Conners were part of the early line-up. Signed to Hydra Head Records, they released their debut album Until Your Heart Stops in 1998 and followed it with Jupiter in 2000.
The band moved to a major label for Antenna, released by RCA Records in 2003. Afterwards Cave In parted ways with RCA and returned to Hydra Head for Perfect Pitch Black in 2005. In November 2006 Cave In announced a hiatus, and they returned to activity in 2009. White Silence followed on Hydra Head in 2011.
On March 28, 2018, bassist Caleb Scofield died in a car accident. The band honoured him with Final Transmission, released by Hydra Head in 2019 and built from demo recordings the band had been working on with Scofield before his death.
Converge’s Nate Newton then joined on bass. With him, Cave In recorded Heavy Pendulum with producer Kurt Ballou at his God City studio, and the album was released in 2022 as their first record for Relapse Records.
Current line-up: Stephen Brodsky (vocals, guitar), Adam McGrath (guitar), Nate Newton (bass, vocals), John-Robert Conners (drums)
