VOLA

VOLA were founded in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 2006 by singer and guitarist Asger Mygind and friends. Their sound joins heavy, down-tuned progressive metal riffs with electronic textures and big, melodic vocals.

After the departure of guitarist Niels Dreijer in 2012, Mygind took over all vocals and guitars. The debut Inmazes was self-released in 2015 and reissued by Mascot Label Group in 2016. Drummer Felix Ewert left in 2017, and Swedish drummer Adam Janzi took his place.

Applause of a Distant Crowd (2018) and Witness (2021) widened their audience. The fourth album, Friend of a Phantom, followed on 1 November 2024 via Mascot Records, with In Flames singer Anders Fridén guesting on the opening track “Cannibal”.

In December 2025 a fire at a storage facility in Copenhagen destroyed much of the band’s instruments, equipment and merchandise, and fans helped them replace the gear through a fundraising campaign.

Current line-up: Asger Mygind (vocals, guitar), Martin Werner (keyboards), Nicolai Mogensen (bass, synths, backing vocals), Adam Janzi (drums)
