Tombs

Tombs were formed in Brooklyn in 2007 by guitarist and vocalist Mike Hill together with bassist Domenic Seita and drummer Justin Ennis. Hill has remained the only constant member through numerous line-up changes.

After a self-titled EP, Tombs signed to Relapse Records, which released their debut album, Winter Hours, on 17 February 2009. By then Carson Daniel James had taken over on bass.

The trio of Hill, James and drummer Andrew Hernandez recorded Path of Totality at Elmwood Recording in Dallas with engineer John Congleton. It was released by Relapse on 7 June 2011.

Savage Gold, produced by Erik Rutan, followed on Relapse on 10 June 2014, with Ben Brand on bass and Garett Bussanick on guitar alongside Hill and Hernandez. Rutan also produced The Grand Annihilation, the band’s first album for Metal Blade Records, released on 16 June 2017.

The line-up was later rebuilt around Hill with drummer Justin Spaeth and bassist Drew Murphy. After signing with Season of Mist, Tombs released the Monarchy of Shadows EP in 2020 and then the album Under Sullen Skies on 20 November 2020, with Matt Medeiros on lead guitar.

The sixth album, Feral Darkness, was released on 17 October 2025 through Redefining Darkness Records. It brought gothic and death rock elements into the band’s sound, and guitarist Dan Higgins joined the line-up. Tombs remain active.
