Diabulus in Musica

Diabulus in Musica started in Pamplona in 2006. Singer Zuberoa Aznárez and keyboardist Gorka Elso already knew each other from the city’s heavy metal scene, where both had played in local bands, and they built the new group with experienced musicians who left other projects to join. In its first year the band recorded its first songs on its own and reached the finals of several contests.

A self-produced release titled Secrets appeared in 2009, and the full-length debut, also called Secrets, followed on Metal Blade Records in May 2010. In December 2011 the band signed a worldwide deal with Napalm Records, which released The Wanderer in 2012. After that album every member except Aznárez and Elso left, guitarist Adrián M. Vallejo among them.

With Alexey Kolygin on guitar and David Carrica on drums, both in the band from 2013, they recorded Argia (2014), with guest singers Ailyn Giménez and Thomas Vikström, and Dirge for the Archons (2016). Euphonic Entropy, their fifth album and fourth for Napalm, followed in February 2020. It was fully self-produced and shaped by the birth of the couple’s second child, and its first single, “Otoi”, is sung entirely in Basque.

In 2021 and 2022 the line-up was rebuilt around Aznárez and Elso, who remain the creative core of the band, as they have been since the start. Drummer Ion Feligreras, bassist David Erro and guitarist Aimar Ibarzabal came in, replacing Carrica and Kolygin and filling the bass slot. Aznárez still adds flute and harp to her vocals, Elso handles keyboards and programming, and the band has kept playing live in Spain.

Current line-up: Zuberoa Aznárez (vocals, flute, harp, programming), Gorka Elso (keyboards, backing vocals, programming), Aimar Ibarzabal (guitars), David Erro (bass), Ion Feligreras (drums)
