Ash Borer are the American atmospheric black metal band from Arcata, California, known for long, slowly unfolding songs. Formed in 2008, they have released three studio albums, most recently The Irrepassable Gate in 2016.

Ash Borer formed in Arcata, California, in 2008. Before their first full-length album they released demos and a split record with Fell Voices.
Their self-titled debut album came out in 2011 as an independent release, and Profound Lore Records signed the band soon after.
Cold of Ages, their second album and first for Profound Lore, was released on August 14, 2012. It contains four long songs, opening with “Descended Lamentations”.
Four years later Profound Lore released the band’s third full-length, The Irrepassable Gate, in December 2016. Several members also play in related bands such as Predatory Light and Vanum.
