Ufomammut were formed in Tortona, Italy, in 1999 by guitarist Poia, bassist and singer Urlo and drummer Vita.

The debut album Godlike Snake came out in 2000, followed by Snailking (2004), Lucifer Songs (2005), Idolum (2008) and Eve (2010).

ORO, their first work for Neurot Recordings, was a single piece in ten movements split into two releases: ORO: Opus Primum came out in April 2012 and ORO: Opus Alter in September 2012. It was the third album in a row the band recorded with Lorenzo Stecconi, and the title is the Italian word for gold.

Ecate followed in 2015 and 8 in 2017. In January 2020 Vita left and the band went on hiatus, returning in April 2021 with new drummer Levre. Fenice came out in 2022 and Hidden, their tenth full-length, in May 2024.
