Johnny Hedlund played bass in Nihilist until that band split in 1989, and he formed Unleashed the same year.
The debut album Where No Life Dwells came out in 1991, followed by Shadows in the Deep (1992), Across the Open Sea (1993), Victory (1995) and Warrior (1997). Then came Hell’s Unleashed (2002), Sworn Allegiance (2004), Midvinterblot (2006), Hammer Battalion (2008) and As Yggdrasil Trembles (2010).
The eleventh album, Odalheim, was released by Nuclear Blast in April 2012. Produced by guitarist Fredrik Folkare, it continued the post-apocalyptic, Norse-inspired story that the band had started on As Yggdrasil Trembles.
Dawn of the Nine followed in 2015, The Hunt for White Christ on Napalm Records in 2018 and No Sign of Life in 2021. The fifteenth album, Fire Upon Your Lands, came out on Napalm on 15 August 2025 and carries the same storyline forward.
Current line-up: Johnny Hedlund (vocals, bass), Tomas Måsgard (guitar), Fredrik Folkare (guitar), Anders Schultz (drums)
