Pallbearer formed in Little Rock, Arkansas, in 2008. The core of singer and guitarist Brett Campbell, bassist Joseph D. Rowland and guitarist Devin Holt went through several drummers before Mark Lierly took over the kit in 2012.
Their debut Sorrow and Extinction (2012, Profound Lore) quickly made them one of the most acclaimed doom bands in America, and Foundations of Burden (2014) built on that success. Heartless (2017) and Forgotten Days (2020) came out through Profound Lore and Nuclear Blast.
Their fifth album, Mind Burns Alive, was released on Nuclear Blast on 17 May 2024. Produced by the band themselves, its six songs focus more on dynamics and emotional weight than on sheer heaviness.
In 2025 the band released the live albums Live at JJ’s and Live at Reggies, along with a newly mixed and mastered version of Foundations of Burden, and in spring 2026 they toured North America playing that album in full.
Current line-up: Brett Campbell (vocals, guitar, synthesizer), Devin Holt (guitar, backing vocals), Joseph D. Rowland (bass, vocals, keyboards), Mark Lierly (drums)
