Sulphur Aeon are the German band from North Rhine-Westphalia who turned H. P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos into dense, melodic death metal. They have released four studio albums, among them Seven Crowns and Seven Seals in 2023.

Sulphur Aeon were founded in 2010 in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, by guitarist Torsten Horstmann. From the first demo, Sulphur Psalms, the band built their whole world around H. P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos – in the lyrics as much as in the artwork.
The debut album Swallowed by the Ocean’s Tide came out in 2013. After signing with Ván Records the band released Gateway to the Antisphere (2015), and their reputation for dense, melodic and oceanic death metal kept growing. The Scythe of Cosmic Chaos (2018) was widely praised in the German metal press.
The members keep a low profile, and the band has never been a heavy touring act, which has only added to the mystique around their releases.
Seven Crowns and Seven Seals, their fourth studio album, was released by Ván Records on 13 October 2023 – an apocalyptic record about the Great Old Ones waking from their slumber.
