Ne Obliviscaris formed in Melbourne, Australia in April 2003, founded by Marc “Xenoyr” Campbell and Adam Cooper. The name is Latin for “forget not”, the motto of Clan Campbell. From the start the band paired Xenoyr’s harsh vocals with the clean singing and violin of Tim Charles, which became their signature.

Their music draws on death, black, thrash and melodic metal, but also on classical, jazz, avant-garde and flamenco. After years of building a following, the debut Portal of I arrived in 2012 and made them one of the most talked-about new names in progressive metal. Citadel followed in 2014, the same year the band ran a crowdfunding campaign that raised more than $86,000 AUD in two days, an Australian record at the time.

Urn (2017) included “Intra Venus”, which won the 2018 Independent Music Award for Best Metal/Hardcore Song. The long-awaited fourth album, Exul, came out on Season of Mist in 2023. In January 2025 Xenoyr announced his departure after 22 years, and James Dorton, formerly of Black Crown Initiate, took over the harsh vocals.

Current line-up: Tim Charles (clean vocals, violin), James Dorton (harsh vocals), Benjamin Baret (lead guitar), Matt Klavins (guitar), Martino Garattoni (bass), Daniel Presland (drums).
